For the first class, it is important to set the tone and establish rapport with the students. Warmers are used to encourage the use of English and to get to know one other. Different materials and tasks can be used for students of different levels. Classroom management and participation in larger classes can be improved using pair work,worksheets, choral repetition, etc. Teachers need to remind the students to speak English in class and the activities need to be geared to their level. A less-threatening atmosphere should be provided for the reluctant learners, such as role-plays, tape recorders, and pair work.
