This unit covers teaching styles and methods. In the first lesson the teacher appeared uninterested, condescending and talked very fast, this had an instant effect on the students in that they didn't understand what he wanted, felt clearly uncomfortable and this led to poor participation and engagement. The teachers approach shut down the student's ability to learn from the very beginning. In the second lesson the teacher introduced himself, got to know the students names and put them at ease from the very beginning. He was respectful, and tried to engage the students by starting with a game. He had open body language, and used humour throughout. This resulted in engaged students who clearly understood what they were setting out to learn, and went through a number of appropriate activities to do so.
The two lessons demonstrate how important teaching style is to effective learning.
