This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This was a useful lesson in examining how I create my own lesson plans. With my Japanese high school students it often times can be very hard to elicit responses from them. There is a Japanese saying \"the nail that sticks out gets hammered back in\", this can translate into the classroom where students sometimes find it hard to volunteer themselves to give information. Usually in the warm up or 'engage' part of the lesson, I will have students in smaller groups so they feel they are among friends. This unit also helped me understand that there are multiple ways of approaching ESA. I feel that I most often do a straight arrow ESA lesson so it may be beneficial to switch it up a bit, especially in the upcoming year as my students become more familiar with me. I also really appreciated the engage activities that the unit offered, I will definitely be using some of these in my future classes. I've already used some of them!
