This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 4 covers the present tense of verbs in English. It is broken down into four separate tenses: present simple, present continuous/progressive, present perfect, and present perfect continuous. The unit demonstrates how each tense is formed. For example, the present perfect is formed with the auxiliary verb 'have' and the past participle of the verb, such as 'I have helped.' This is demonstrated for the affirmative, negative, and question form. Each tense is further explained by it's usage, exploring the types of situations that the tense describes. A use of the present simple, for instance, is to relay habitual or routine actions. I was familiar with these tenses already, but this unit is a useful tool for moving from simply understanding how to use the tense properly to understanding how to teach the tense effectively to a non-native English-speaker. The suggested activities for the Activate stage of a lesson are also helpful in improving techniques for conveying English grammar in an EFL classroom.
