This unit was an overview of a few different methods of esl instructions. Among these were grammar-translation, audio lingualism, the silent way, ESA, task based learning, PPP, and task based learning. Grammar translation is explained in its name. It is simply a method of transition from L2 to L1. Audio lingualism focuses on drilling of phrases to teach pronunciation and vocab. ESA focuses on engaging the students before teaching and application of the material. The silent way puts an emphasis on constructivist theory through the use of colored blocks or rods. \"Presentation, Practice, Produce (PPP)\" is also explained in its name. You provide students with the information, practice it in a controlled environment, and then allow them to produce for themselves. Rask based learning focuses on learning through activities as opposed to traditional instruction.
