This unit gave an introduction to Teaching Business English, the overall aims of the course, and basic information that is good to know about teaching English in general and specifically teaching Business English.
Various acronyms of English teaching are listed with information about what they are and what the differences are, such as TEFL and ESP. ESP is related to Business English because ESP is English for Specific Purposes. This could be in any field such as English for Law, English for the medical field, or English for companies or corporations in a specific field. When teaching Business English it is helpful to have some terminology for the field that you are trying to teach and some business background as well, but that is not necessary. Your clients already know their field and need to learn English.
Teaching Business English also takes many forms. The teacher can do private sessions, which are a large part of the market. They can teach at a language school where they teach a general group or where companies send groups of their employees in to take a course. Or, the teacher could do \"in house\" courses at the actual company. Business English courses may have people from different departments and different levels of English as opposed to regular English courses, because they are often sorted by career or profession rather than by English level. Overall, when working with a company, a teacher can expect between 18-35 contract hours.
