This was a good lesson for me because I will begin to teach lower level ESL students and this unit had some great strategies and techniques. I agree with the beginning statement, students who have the opportunity to live in an English speaking environment while studying have a huge advantage. I teach in an international school where the main language is English, though the school is located in China. In order to be successful, students must improve their English, especially the academic vocabulary. I think it is important that you create a safe environment for students to learn. They need to feel comfortable making a mistake in order to learn.
Lastly, s a teacher, you must constantly adjust your teaching style to match the student and/or class. This includes how and when you correct mistakes. Teaching students how to self correct is challenging but peer correction can be very successful. Students learn best from other students.
