This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit focuses on class management. A teacher should be able to carefully control his/her voice, gestures and eye-contact to get the best cooperation from the students. Effective class management depends on a number of factors, including class size, the age of the students, the level of student-teacher respect, the rapport that a teacher creates with the students, etc. A teacher should have a good knowledge about how to manage a class when working as a whole group, in smaller groups, in pairs or allowing students to work individually, and a teacher must be aware of the pros and cons of each situation.
A teacher should also be careful to ensure that he/she is communicating effectively by using simple and clear instructions. Maintaining discipline in a classroom is very important, and a teacher should never shout or lose his/her temper. A teacher should also be able to control the level of talking in the classroom, including the amount of time that he/she spends talking.
