This unit was straightforward and brings up an issue many teachers face. I find using a course book to be helpful in aiding with the topics and direction of the lessons, but in my particular course books find the activities are not relevant to the students. Therefore many of my lessons are a combination of course material and created material. When appropriate I will bring in authentic material as well. A good teacher will use any material given, or not given to them, and still create an engaging lesson. The time it takes to create your own material is something to take into consideration, as many teachers get paid per hour. Class preparation is not included in the hourly rate, so depending upon how much preparation work is needed, it can take up a lot of your time.
Overall I find most students like using a course book as it gives them a guideline and shows their progress.
