In this unit, I reviewed the two video lessons taught to a group of Thai students by an English teacher. The first of the two videos demonstrated the wrong way of teaching: not explaining concepts, not engaging students or learning their names, and not answering their questions, which led to an overall atmosphere of intimidation and confusion. The second lesson, however, was remarkably effective as the teacher used their names, engaged them from the beginning with a concept they understood, and worked with their level of understanding as best he could. I learned more effective strategies of blending the transitions in the ESA structure from the second lesson, for example, going from the study phase to the activate phase by showing images and demonstrating what the assignment is and how it is to be done in relation to what was previously learned.
