This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Troubleshooting describes various problems that a teacher may encounter in teaching English as a second language. When teaching a new group, the Unit explains the difference in teaching styles when dealing with these new groups and existing groups, where rapport between students, hopefully, has already been established. Recourse to the course book for the first lesson is not recommended. A number of activities are suggested to enable the teacher to establish rapport, the students? interests, the English level of each student in the group, etc. These include: questionnaire/surveys; ?tell us about it?; and pass the ball game. A Needs Analysis is also recommended. The Unit continues with advice for \"breaking the ice\" by the use of warmers, how to deal with different levels in the same class, how to manage large classes, reluctant students, and students? attempts to use their native language.
