If we want to teach pronounciation well, we need to know well about the phonology. One important thing of phonology is intonation. There is a places of articulation, students need to know how do they pronounce each syllable correctly then they will now how to do the same with a word even a sentence. Also there is a theory about intonation, but if we get used to say the right intonation, it won't be difficult. Another thins is stress. For the same word, diffenrent country may have different stress. Different stress means different menings in a sentence, which is depended on what do you want to express.
