This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit covered the productive skills, which are speaking and writing. This unit recognized that most people?teachers and students?commonly consider speaking the ?more important? skill and may therefore devote less time and learning to writing skills. Speaking English may satisfy a more immediate need/desire for more students than writing, and yet it is up to the teacher to foster interest in writing skills and give merit to their value. Lessons that focus on speaking skills should aim to build both fluency and accuracy. Different exercises and games can be tailored to target either fluency or accuracy. It is important for teachers to build confidence in their students, such that students are willing to take risks and make errors without fear of negative repercussions. Lessons that focus on writing skills should serve to build competency in spelling, punctuation, syntax, handwriting, and even creativity.
