This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit introduced present tense verbs, their forms, usage, typical errors students make when using them and various activate stage teaching ideas. We discussed in depth present simple, present continuous, present perfect, and present perfect continuous verb forms. I learned that present simple is the most common since it talks about facts, routines, and habits. I also learned that English has 12 verb tenses in total (past, present, and future with 4 aspects to each tense) and this might be a particular challenge to second language learners who's L1 may have far less tenses to consider. In Unit 2 I have discovered that there is so much more to Speech and knowing basic English language. There are so many different layers to nouns, verbs, gerunds, prepositions conjunctions and articles. There are many different forms and usage that need to be learnt and taught in a way that helps the student to understand. Explaining in a simple format and getting the students to do examples can make it a lot easier. An example could be to have a game where they act out a situation using the words or miming a book title or film perhaps. This makes the learning of English more fun for them.
