Unit 7 covers the teaching of vocabulary, grammar structures, and language functions. Regarding vocabulary, the unity explains issues in selecting vocabulary to teach and what the students need to know about each new word. The grammar structure section covers the necessary elements of meaning, usage, forms/patterns, and spoken/written forms. Lastly, the section on functions explains teaching concepts such as invitations, refusals, agreement,disagreement, etc. This unit also gives examples of ESA lessons for each of the above topics. I especially appreciate the suggestion that teaching language functions will benefit from the use of patchwork ESA classes focusing on the Activate portion.
