This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
There are three ways to assess a students language level: 1. Tutorials; 2. Evaluation by the students; and 3. Tests. At the start of a course Placement Tests may be given which help to form groups of students at the same levels; and Diagnostic Tests (similar to Placement Tests) may be given to see what students already know, which is helpful to the teacher in determining what kinds of lessons, and which course materials, to use. Periodic Progress Tests may be in the form of a written test, or even games. These will include a balance of all four skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking) as well as grammar that has been covered in the course. Tests should only include language items covered within the prescribed period. Practice Tests should follow the structure of the particular external examination, for which they are preparing. There are at least a dozen different major exams that have been devised by various academic organizations, each one focusing on aspects of English usage for various functions.
