In this unit, I learnt that engaging students in the topic is vital to their motivation and understanding and using materials like videos and music can really help students imagine in more detail the topic, theme or famous star that is the centre of the lesson. By using these tools, as well as starting a class discussion in the Engage phase, it will be the catapult for motivation in the comprehension phase where the lesson texts are explored. It is also important to vary topics as a teacher, while using a range of tools for the lesson - like gap-fill exercises, pre-teaching specific words to encourage understanding or using pair work to rearrange texts. The more important is challenging the students while still selecting material they can accomplish.
