This unit covering teaching methods presents many techniques that I see used in the classrooms I assist in. Reading on the reasoning behind these different techniques gives me clarity on why certain activities could be more effective than others. Also, while I have never seen the silent way being implemented, the use of colored rods to indicate certain parts of speech is interesting and may be utilized in other ways. The Engage-Study-Activate methodology includes the importance of engaging the students' interest to increase motivation and make students more comfortable with speaking. The activate portion where students use the points taught in practice conversations and in games to help cement the language. The guidelines mentioned in the section about correcting were also very relative to me as an ALT. How often should I correct? What takes priority? These are addressed in the section.
