In this lesson I learned about the two productive skills, speaking and writing. In addition, I learned about about using games in the classroom. I learned that students have many reasons for having difficulty speaking in the classroom, but I have now learned ways to encourage them to speak, such as having them do group/pair work, doing plenty of drilling and guided practice before the fluency-based activities, and making sure my activities have a purpose such that the students feel motivated to speak. I also learned about writing, and the various differences it has from speaking. For example, I learned that in writing, we also have to take care to teach spelling, punctuation, and formatting.
