As a native speaker of the language I know how to read, write, and speak grammatically correct. However, the last time I was taught grammar structure and usage back when I was probably 12 or 13 years old. I felt like I was learning it all over again. I have had very little teaching experience and found this course to be an eye opener. I learned so much about teaching techniques, how to use materials, and how to structure my future lessons.
The school that I taught for about four months gave us the basic lesson plan of what to cover in the textbook and supplementary resources. I wish I had taken this course prior to teaching there, because I would have been able to keep my students engaged in the lessons and provide better feedback. From now on, no matter what school I may be teaching at I will not depend solely on their lesson plans, rather I will continue to use the lesson plan template that we used in this course. I struggled at first to complete these templates, but now I have found them quite easy to use.
I have moved from the united states to Turkey with my future husband and plan on teaching part time during my off time from our two cafes. I will continuously refer back to the materials provided during this course to keep myself on track with teaching techniques, activity ideas, and managing my classes. Now, the next time I step into a classroom I will have the confidence and skills to teach a class successfully.
