This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I have enjoyed going through this course even though it was much more difficult than I expected it to be. It is one thing to be able to speak and write well in your native language. It is quite another to be able to teach the foundations of your native language to a non-native speaker. After going through the course, I believe I could step into a classroom and do the students justice. It will take practice to become an experienced teacher, but now I have a place to begin and lots of material to reference. I understand the underpinnings of grammar on a deeper level and can glimpse the perspective of the non-native learner as they look at these grammar issues for the first time and try to comprehend them. I believe that now I have the skills to begin a teaching career.
I am not sure how I am going to put into action what I have learned. I may try to start an english for Business school here in the area in which I live. I may just use what I learned to teach friends and relatives english. I wanted to expand my horizons for making a living outside of the USA. It seems to me that unfortunately here in this small city in Uruguay, the pay isn’t that promising for english teachers. My husband and I are in the process of starting up two other businesses. I am glad to have another possible option, even if it means moving to a larger city.
