This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Although difficult to summarize all I've gained from this course, I will try make a more general attempt. Overall, I think the information gained can be easily divided into two parts. The first being the nuts and bolts of the english language - the grammar. The course divided and presented the basics and core of english grammar fundamentals. Although challenging, the grammar sections were well presented in a logical direction. The second part, which was so well balanced and intertwined with the first, was the practical aspects of teaching. From advice, suggestions, resources, ideas and emphasis on proper planning, much was gained from the practical portion of the course. I appreciate the repeating methodology and it's emphasis in the course. Generally starting with the "Engage" phase and working through a lesson to finish in the "Activate" stage seems to have a lot of value from the perspective of the student.
While working through the material, I have already begun teaching and have gradually worked up to a semi-full schedule currently. I have already used many of the ideas and specific techniques learned. I've repeatedly referred back to my notes on grammar and have created general lesson plans just as I have done for the course worksheets.
I realize that teaching is very much an art. Although with prior teaching experience (with no formal training), I now feel that I can truly begin my voyage of becoming a great teacher one day. I am grateful for this course as this has clearly provided me a nice foundation from which to grow.
