This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This course has been most helpful for me in two critical areas. It has introduced me to the language and structures of english grammar. As a native speaker I have had little training in my own grammar. (I actually understand french grammar better than english grammar!) Had I not taken this course I don’t think I would have any idea how to teach my students grammatical concepts that I had never expressly identified or articulated to myself.
The second lesson I have most appreciated this course imparting revolves around the best practice and practical information it provided about actually planning and leading classes. While I didn’t always enjoy crafting pretend lesson plans I know that I will be much more comfortable writing real plans in the future because I have had this practice. I think the Engage, Study, Activate framework will also be vital to my success as a TEFL teacher.
I will definitely take the lessons and language this course has taught me into the field, both literally as I take all of my lessons with me and figuratively in all that I have learned. I also plan to distill many of the resources mentioned throughout the course into a single document that I can reference as I begin to teach and create/adapt curriculum for myself.
