This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
My initial motivation to complete the TEFL course was inspired by obtaining a degree to work and live abroad. However, this course has turned my life upside down in many ways.
To begin, this course gave me the prospect of an international career and living abroad. What is more, embarking on a career of teaching and doing the TEFL course enticed me very rapid with a teaching job in Spain and made me able to have that opportunity to get to travel abroad as a surplus.
Secondly, during this course, I learned to combine educational development with career growth. It wasn’t always easy to encourage myself to study for the TEFL course after I had been preparing my classes for the next day. Sometimes, I even felt like I was constantly focusing on english and I forgot about learning spanish but, at the same time, it felt as an immersive life experience that really improved my teaching skills, knowledge and professional development.
Above all, the TEFL course provided me the required knowledge and skills to teach english effectively. Thanks to the course I developed and broadened my knowledge of language skills, correction techniques and pronunciation. In addition, I have been given the opportunity to practice developing lesson plans, to use and criticize available textbooks and various resources, to learn more about classroom management, etc. Consequently, this course helped me to increase my confidence in the classroom, to improve my language and teaching skills, to adapt to the classroom dynamic, and to reflect on and develop my methods and approaches. Furthermore, I’m sure I’m now more successful in language analysis and, as a result, I developed my ability to make the language more meaningful to foreign learners at all levels.
Having learned the basic teaching skills and methods throughout the course, I will now deepen that knowledge and continue to develop my career pathway by putting the learned principles into practice: by reflecting on what I do in the classroom, by experimenting with new resources and ideas, by observing the behaviour and progress of my learners and trying to find solutions to the problems I face, by talking to other teachers and, where possible, by observing them.
I’d like to finish by highlighting that I have highly enjoyed this course and it encourages me to continue with my professional development and undertake further training in order to keep on making progress.
