This course was an essential refresher to my grammar. The last time I had any kind of formal grammar lesson was in 2007 in a Journalism course during my sophomore year of college. The different lessons in grammar and tenses have helped me immensely. I can use correct grammar when speaking and writing without even thinking about it, but without the more in depth knowledge of the processes and inner workings, it’s difficult to explain why we communicate the way we do. english is a tricky language with a lot of backwards rules that are difficult to explain and understand if you do not study them thoroughly.
I have also benefited from the lessons on planning and organization. This was the biggest set back in my classroom last year. I was under prepared and had never taught or organized a class, nor had I been taught how. Lesson planning was new to me and I had to start completely from scratch, often being under or over prepared for my lessons. The lesson plan outline provided and the different ideas given for course book adaptations and activity planning with be very useful for me as I go into a new year of teaching.
