This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I found it helpful to review parts of grammar that I haven’t studied in many years. This reminded me how intricate and confusing the english language can sometimes be, which makes me more sensitive to the needs and frustrations of my students.
I also appreciated the repeated use of the lesson plans, which seemed very difficult at first! I am used to making vague lesson plans on my own, but the course gave me a more structured way to plan, which I’ve used to be more prepared for my classes, especially in making sure I’ve covered all parts of the ESA lesson. I was new to the ESA format, but I now use it in all my planning.
Lastly, the course has given me so many ideas to use for my lessons, especially the activate stage. Teaching children means that I have to plan many short activities for each lesson, and the course has really opened my eyes to how many different games and activities I can use. As I’ve mentioned previously, I think there comes a point when teachers can become complacent or burnt out, or they’ve simply exhausted their own creativity, which is detrimental to themselves and the students. This course has given me not only ideas, but a lot of resources to get even more ideas, so that if I’m feeling stuck, my students and my classes won’t suffer for it.
