The TEFL course has provided me with a sound working knowledge of essential english grammar and its unique phonological system. It has also been particularly helpful in giving me an insight into the skills and techniques required for successful language teaching. The course rightfully starts with the varied roles of a teacher and categorizes the different types of learners. Quite a few of the units deal with an exhaustive analysis of grammar, phonology and language skills which was very informative and thought provoking. The division of the lesson into the three phases of-engage, study and activate was something unique.
It helps structure the lesson. The units on classroom management and evaluation and testing of students were very informative. The video lesson was like an actual demonstration class whereby we teachers could visibly see how the same lesson could be taught in two entirely different ways! Personally I would say that this unit threw light on the right approach a teacher should adopt. The unit on materials that can be used in the classroom was would better my teaching. The course has provided me with a lot of useful sites, games and other resources that would prove invaluable in my teaching career. The unit on educational technology ensured that I utilize technology for teaching. On the whole I must say that the entire course has helped me place my foot forward in the teaching leaning process.
