This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
The most difficult and rewarding section of this course was being forced to re-teach myself some of the grammar that I vehemently avoided in high school. Looking back over some of my previous worksheets to get ideas for this lesson, I was surprised at how detailed the units all had been. I feel that this course will give me an extra skill in what is a very competitive job market for students (such as myself) that are graduating with a bachelors this year. It has also solidified the idea that acquiring new skills is less about understanding, and more about commitment.
I plan to use the skill from this course to work abroad during the year between my graduation and attending grad school. I have always felt that going on vacation in a new country and thinking you have the feel for it is like trying salsa and saying you enjoy mexican food. I would like to teach abroad in a new place to become more intimately aquatinted with it and its people. I have had a few friends teach english abroad, and they have all described it as being a difficult but rewarding experience. I think that spreading knowledge while enjoying a new culture would be the most rewarding way to spend my free year.
