Why Complete a TEFL CourseThere are various reasons for someone to finish a TEFL Course. Some of the reasons could be to further your skills in teaching english, have a better understanding of the language, wanting some sort of certificate or qualification, for a better job or have the opportunity to teach a class after finishing the course. These are some of the reasons and it may vary for each individuals. Personally my reason for completing this course pretty much lies with all the reasons mentioned above. So the question is “Why complete a TEFL Course”. If you’re thinking of teaching english then my question is, “Why not?”. Even if you’re planning on becoming a teacher or you are a teacher already, taking this course will still benefit you. One can never have enough information and insights. So for ones who are planning to become a teacher, completing a TEFL course will prepare them for the real deal. The course provides not only about the language and it’s grammar but everything around it as well. For example how to teach, how to prepare, what to watch out for and dos and don’t. For an experienced teacher, taking a course may not seem necessary but there are no perfect teachers. A teacher with great knowledge of the subject may be horribly unmotivating or even discouraging. Having other insights are extremely valuable in your growth. Observing and evaluating other styles and approaches will build your knowledge. Adapting things you feel you can use and omitting whatever you think is unnecessary. I am a native english speaker and I was born and raised in America. Most people have a common misconception that native speakers know everything about the language. That is very untrue. Most people do not know every single word in the dictionary nor able to explain every grammar rules. I was no exception. Before I started pursuing teaching english my non-native english friends always asked me about english vocabulary and grammar such as, “why is this sentenced formed this way?” or “why isn’t this in the past tense?”. I knew how it was supposed to be but I had trouble explaining why? In the worst case I said, “it just is” which is a terrible explanation. As I was in a situation where people asked me questions, I started to wonder myself. I became curious and started studying again and that is when I came across TEFL online course. Taking this course gave me a better understanding of the language and it’s structure. It helped clarify many things that I did not even think about before. For example many people use high-tech products such as I-Pad. Many people can use it but can they explain how it works such as why does it react when you touch it with your fingertip? Maybe it sounds absurd and it’s a bad example but that’s how I felt. In some countries having some sort of certificate or qualification is a big advantage especially when searching for a job. In TEFL, it helps you build your skills and search for jobs. Although that is not my particular reason but it is a great reason for many people to complete this course. Get real life experience and have an opportunity to work somewhere. Receiving a certificate is really rewarding. It’s a proof of your accomplishment and not to mention it looks good. Completing a TEFL course can benefit you whether your reason is to build your skills, learn more or get a better job. Taking and completing this course was a real benefit for me. I wanted to build my skills for teaching and I have achieved that goal. Of course I am nowhere near perfect and I have many things to work on. I plan on taking the other TEFL courses as well for there is always something new to learn.
