This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
To start off, I have been out of school for some time now. It is amazing how much we take for granted about how precise and complicated language can be.
Ask the average person what a modal is or the difference between preterit and imperfect and you will surely get a blank stare. Lately I have often found myself dissecting sentences while I read making sure I understand all the parts to the sentence. Re-learning english as an adult has made me appreciate language in a general sense. I have also experienced this through my continuous study of the spanish language. Although I am only at an Intermediate level in spanish, comparing the two languages has given me a better understanding of both.
This course, to say the least, was very thorough and more challenging than I thought it was going to be. At first I wasn’t too keen on the lesson plans, but now see how important they can be.
The lessons on classroom management were also very helpful. Being a father myself and knowing several teachers personally, I know this is going to be a challenge. Keeping student’s attention day after day cannot be an easy task.
Traveling and experiencing different cultures is a passion of mine. Being a TEFL teacher is something I have wanted to be for a while now and I look forward to using my certification.
