This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I have learned that variety is key. Before starting this course, I had the notion that there weren’t enough ideas in the world to keep students motivated, stimulated and learning. However, I was proven wrong, even just several units into the course. There are many paths to the same end result. Some paths will be bumpier than others, but with good discernment and motivation, those paths can be paved smoother. I have also learned that the teacher needs to possess just as much—if not more—motivation as he/she expects from her students. It’s an intertwined relationship that has a constant give and take dynamic.
I plan to put these two revelations into action by constantly being constantly diligent. I have to continually assess, motivate, interact and listen to my students. There can be no room for complacency. A complacent teacher results in a complacent class. A complacent class will only give the minimum—or less.
