This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I’ve learned that being a good teacher requires a lot of patience and preparation, as well as sensitivity to the needs and interest of the students. The worst thing a teacher can do is belittle a student or make him/her uncomfortable since learning a practicing a language has a lot to do with self-confidence. I’ve always been the kind of person who wants to be organized and prepared as I go into a project or presentation, so the different approaches and lesson-planning techniques that I have learned will be helpful. I also have come to understand that one cannot always be prepared for everything. There will be problems with students that may come up that I have no control over. I just need to be aware and sensitive to the factors contributing to the problem and work with those things, be a good support system for my students where I can be of assistance. I also need to ensure I provide praise and encouragement as well as corrections when giving feedback so that students will stay motivated and continue to grow in their ability.
Wit regards to specific TEFL material, I am sure I will review the chapters as I prepare my lesson plans, as well as many suggested resources.
