This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I'll admit it. My primary motivation for signing up for the course was to qualify myself to make more money at my current teaching job. I was a bit skeptical about what the quality of the course would be and whether it would teach me anything I didn't know already from two years of teaching. I had gotten by this long without a proper TEFL training course, what could ITTT possibly teach me at this point in my teaching career? Well, the answer is it could teach me A LOT! I was so happy with the quality of the course and the feedback from the first Unit.
I have gained a better understanding of a number of various teaching methodologies and their various pros and cons, which has helped and will continue to help inform my lesson planning moving forward. Along the same line, the course has introduced me to new and very workable lesson plan formats which I didn't know about (e.g., boomerang and patchwork lesson plans) before. Now that I have a better understanding of these lesson plans and their appropriate use, I will definitely be implementing these new formats in my own lesson planning, which I know will help keep my lessons fresh and my students interested.
The course has also given me a lot of great ideas to implement an element of fun to my lessons. I know that one of my weaknesses as a teacher, especially at the beginning, was focusing too much on the exercises and drills. While I have made an effort to make sure my students are having fun and enjoying the learning process, it was a struggle! The ITTT units have given me a lot of ways to provide my students with opportunities to blend learning with having fun, such as creative worksheets, online resources (e.g., bogglesworld) and games, which I was also implement in my lessons going forward.
Along a similar vein, the focus on lesson planning throughout the course really helped me. I think it is one thing to read the unit materials and another to put it into use and apply it. I think that this course, though online, did do a great job of helping me take the content of the unit PDFs and put them into "practice" through the creation of detailed lesson plans. It helped me think through the material and forced me to organize it in a way that my students would be able to digest.
In addition to all that I have learned regarding lesson plans, I also learned a lot about how to create a positive classroom environment, establish rapport with my students and encourage positive and effective student interaction (and the importance of all of these things).
One of the most important things I learned from the class is even though I am teacher, there is always room for me to grow and always more for to learn that will help make me a smarter, more effective teacher.

I have learned the saying ?gyou are never too old to learn?h is true. I am South african, with Afrikaans being my first language and english my second. Throughout my primary and high school years, I did well in english. This course has showed me, that what we learned in school, is only a drop in the ocean, and there is so much more to the english Language.
This course has also shown me various techniques for teaching students a new skill and language.
Where I currently work, there are people of various African cultures, who do not have english or Afrikaans as a first language. They struggle to express themselves or communicate with those members who do understand english. I can use this course to teach those people english, which in turn will give them confidence to communicate more often in a language that everyone will understand, the english Language.
