I have personally gained many insights into teaching english through this course. The course allowed me to study the tenses again and gave me tools on how to accurately teach them in class. Personally, I believe the unit on how to produce an exciting class is what I will take from this the most. It is very helpful and supportive to know that this course encourages not speaking the native tongue of your students in class. It has been my experience so far in Africa that all volunteer teachers or non-native teachers are using the native tongue of their students in class. They are using this as a crutch to clear up classroom confusion however they are hindering their students at the same time.
I plan to put into action what I have learned in this class by becoming a primary school teacher of english near my husband in East Africa. I plan to use this knowledge, life lessons, and experience with children to become an english teacher and person that the kids will feel empowered by.
