This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
The final unit of the course, Unit 20, is called Troubleshooting. This lesson details different problems a teacher may encounter in the classroom and how to rectify the situation. I found this unit very helpful for a new teacher to be able to refer to. The lesson begins by discussing first lessons and gives good examples of how to establish rapport in the classroom. The lesson also gives ideas for warm up activities that get the students ready to learn. Examples of this are hangman and memory games. Next the unit touches on different levels in the classroom and large classes providing strategies for handling the class so all students benefit. In a large class for example assigning group leaders can help with classroom management. The lesson closes by discussing the use of native language, how to help reluctant students, and difficulties with listening text.
