This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
As a result of currently studying a new language, I think correct pronunciation is perhaps the most important part to speaking. A student could have the entire dictionary memorized of a language, but if he or she can not say the words properly, he or she will find communicating incredibly difficult or impossible. Also, because of the different ways different languages use sound, I believe our brains develop differently, and when we listen pick up different cues. In english we do not have tone in the same way that Thais do. And I find that Thai people try to say english words with the correct tone, even though there isn't one, while really struggling with the correct pronunciation of the letters, especially in the case of clusters of letters. And this is because in Thai, the pronunciation of the clusters is much less important than getting the tone of the word correct. Knowing this would help someone teaching english to thai students immensely.
