This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Lesson 15 was all about evaluation and testing. A student?s language level can be assessed through tutorials, evaluation by the students, and tests. Tutorials were briefly explained as something that can be done with individuals or groups by reviewing the work done, discussing lesson aims, students? performance and any problems. The results learned from student evaluation can be incorporated into future lessons.
I learned about several different kinds of tests and their purposes. Placement and diagnostic tests are given before the course begins. A placement test will help the teacher place the student in the correct class according to their ability and the diagnostic test will reveal what the student already knows which can help the teacher prepare course material.
Progress tests are important to provide ongoing feedback about what the students are retaining. They should cover what has been taught.
I also learned about how practice tests can help students prepare for external tests such as a Cambridge Assessment test or a general external examination like the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
