Unit 14 on course books and lesson materials emphasized the importance in the process of choosing what materials get covered in a lesson. This is because students react differently to different kinds of material. One good example is how understanding authentic materials such as newspapers is considered a bigger accomplishment for a student as opposed completing to a sample role play exercise. The unit was also extremely beneficial in providing examples of created materials that could use to model future lessons after. Finally, the unit emphasized the relevance of using course books to this day but the need for teachers to decide when to introduce additional materials.
