Unit 5, teaching themes, covered various means to teach lessons in a variety of styles and how to incorporate those strategies into the ESA style. It also covered various resources that can be used along with some teaching theory to assist in creating effective lessons to be used in teaching business English.
The unit opened with a synopsis detailing the purpose of the section and an outline of its topics. It proceeded to outline the use of case studies in the classroom followed by frameworking and how to create an effective framework. Next, the unit covered ?problem-based learning? and outlined in detail how to create an effective problem-based learning lesson and comparing it to case-studies. Next, the unit examined the use of games and Computer Aided Language Learning in the classroom; two effective resources and how best to implement them in lessons. The chapter concluded with an examination of Speech Act Theory and how it can be incorporated into the classroom followed by three in-depth examples of an ESA lesson plan for a lower-advanced level class, a pre-intermediate class and an intermediate class.
