Speaking and writing skills are equally important. They are used to either communicate a purpose or just wanting to listen or speak about something they are interested in. Accuracy is usually controlled by the teacher allowing the teacher to correct in groups or individually. Creative communication is more fluency based and in includes activities such as role playing, debates, discussion and communication games, encouraging all students to speak. Again with all teaching activities the teacher should be sure to decide what is the aim, be prepared with materials and monitor the length of time and potential problems that could arise. The teacher should arouse interest with visuals and make sure students always know what is excepted, winding up with feedback from students and noting vocabulary or grammar issues. Writing skills include spelling, punctuation, and handwriting and can be taught for creative writing or writing for a purpose. Like speaking the emphasis can be on skills or can be more creative. Games are a great tool for teaching communication and can be controlled or free in practice. Games can be competitive or cooperative and add a relaxed but fun atmosphere to the classroom.
