This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit emphasises the importance of receptive skills, which are reading and listening, that goes beyond just understanding and recognising words by grasping the overall meaning from a pre-existing knowledge of the world.
I find this interesting because it emphasises an almost-intuitive aspect of learning/teaching English. When the topic is introduced at the start of a lesson, the student is already utilising predictive skills. When a common phrase/sentence is taught, I often explain the context and nuance of the sentence so that the student understands how and when to use it. When I ask comprehension questions about an article that has been read, the student will scan the article for the answer.
