This last unit clarified some of the ways to deal with potentially difficult teaching arrangements-such as a large group or a group with mixed English levels. It is vital to establish rapport with the class in order to understand their different levels and needs. One idea I may use that I have observed teachers use it to start with all students having little name cards on their desks. Although this does not establish rapport, it may help by forcing them to write their names in English and if I do not know my students' names, how can I call on them? Using a pass the ball activity to get to know everyone seems like the best plan at the moment for a new class.
