This Unit reviews the usage of modals, phrasal verbs and passive voice. There are numerous modals in the English language; each is used to communicate a number of ideas: obligation, possibility, permission, ability or advice. It is the teacher's job to come up with the right exercises and activities to help the students understand the different nuances between these modals. As for phrasal verbs, there are also three types: intransitive, transitive separable and transitive inseparable. Exposure and practice are keys to helping students learn. Passive voice is common in both speaking and writing.
