As mentioned, receptive skills which are reading and listening are equally important. There are many reasons why we read and listen. First, for a purpose. We read and listen because it will help us achieve some particular aim or goal. Second, for entertainment. We usually read or listen information because we find it pleasurable or enjoyable in some way. But quite often our reading and listening may be a mix of the above two motives. How we read sometimes varies. Sometimes we just look and listen. But it is also important that we wil be able to grasp the overall meaning of what we have heard or seen. We also sometimes detect some problems with listening and reading. These are mainly in connection with the language contained in the text, the topic and the tasks the students will perform. Teachers should just know carefully the ways of approaching language difficulty.
