This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In unit eleven I learnt more about receptive skills - reading and listening. Both skills are basic and equally important for students to develop. There are two main reasons for reading or listening: for a purpose or for entertainment. Sometimes we have to read on purpose, it could be instructions, English lesson home work; for entertainment we read if we find information enjoyable in some way. It could be book, watching a movie/cartoon, news and so on. When we teach students these skills we should engage them by playing a game, if the text is about famous people then we can watch a video about this person, or listen to her/his song. If it’s necessary (normally when we are teaching non-natives it is necessary) we should pre-teach some new words from the text or audio. As for exercises we can use matching, answering questions based on the information, putting in a right order parts of the text, we can also use pictures and try to retell information with students. For activate phase we can ask create a text according to the theme.
