In my opinion, this unit was useful for me because of various reasons. First, I thought that the unit helped me organize my testing with students and clarified in detail the purpose of each test: Placement, Diagnostic, Progress, Practice, and Proficiency tests. At first, I was confused about the practice tests versus the progress tests; however, after watching the video, the instructor explained well how practice tests can be a preparation for external tests. On the other hand, progress tests assesses how much and what the learner has retained so far. Also, the various proficiency tests seemed very interesting to me, especially the Cambridge Assessment. The reason is because I did learn the many tests that exist in this category. I was unaware that the ESOL certificate was for learners in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Also, the differences between TOEIC and TOEFL were well explained. Certainly, I can inform and recommend learners much better about which test would be more appropriate for them depending on their language objectives (Business or Academic English).
