I've found this unit particularly helpful because it explores a field that in most cases remains unexplored and therefore presents a lot of difficulties for most non-native speakers of English: the phonology. I have learnt that the way you vary the volume and pitch in a whole sentence or of a single word can completely change the message/meaning we are trying to convey. Intonation normally falls when we finish what we want to say and rises when we expect a reply from the person we are talking to. We can have also a flat intonation when we don't have that much to say.
I have found out that consonants can be voiced or unvoiced according to the presence or absence of vibration of the vocal chords and that place and manner of articulation are the main factors involved when we emit a sound.
