This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 15 covered the motivation behind evaluating students and the methods by which a teacher can do so, as well as the various external tests that students may need to prepare for. Evaluations are necessary so that both the teacher and student can become aware of strengths/weaknesses, and allow for gaps in knowledge to be filled in. At the start of the course a placement test and ideally a diagnostic test should be used, followed by routine progress tests, and finally practice tests for either a final exam or as preparation for external tests. These external tests would likely include the well-respected Cambridge Assessment exams (especially for students interested in British English), the business-oriented TOEIC (especially in East Asia), the academic-oriented TOEFL (especially for students wishing to study abroad in America), or the slightly more general IELTS.
