Productive skills include writing and speaking. Writing is often overlooked because teachers feel they are wasting class time by having students write in class, but it is important for language accuracy. Students must learn handwriting, spelling, punctuation, layout, and creative writing. Speaking should always be encouraged in the classroom as well. It can be aided by careful planning, controlled and guided practice activities before the fluency activity, pair and group work, changing classroom dynamics, choosing topics and activities that stimulate interest, and allowing students time to think before speaking for certain activities. Communication games are good for learning productive skills.
