This unit explores the two receptive skills: reading and listening. These receptive skills are equally important to one another because reading and listening uses the mind to help process and understand words. In this unit, I learned about the different types of specialist skills that readers and listeners use to understand the context, from scanning to detailed information. Knowing these skills is helpful to a teacher because it provides the teacher the different skills that students might use in the classroom. I also learned how to approach language difficulty through pre-teaching vocabulary to students and being careful in selecting the appropriate texts based on skill level of the classroom.
